We launched my nationwide search for a Valentine last week. Since so many have asked for updates, I thought I’d let you know what’s happened since.

One of my favorite part of reviewing submissions is getting to see the personalities of applicants and nominees in their videos. My young nieces, their mom and I laughed at one hopeful singing “Hello, My Baby” while making a raw turkey dance. Other videos pulled at my heartstrings, like the participant who opened up about the loss of his son. “I’m nice, I’m kind, and I think most importantly, I’m a giver.”

Reality fans might be delighted to learn an alum from the dating show “FBOY Island” has applied. I haven’t watched, but I guess I should check out a few episodes for research?

I’ve also been touched by the interest of my fellow journalists. I got to chat with my USA TODAY colleague, Taylor Wilson, (who has an amazing podcast voice) for The Excerpt. I enjoyed my conversation with People magazine‘s Abigail Adams, which went live minutes before my appearance on SiriusXM’s The Julie Mason Show.

I was stunned when Jeff Arch, a writer on “Sleepless in Seattle,” which inspired this whole effort reached out to me on Instagram. It felt like a life-making moment as I respect the movie so much!

Certainly, when someone is doing anything via the internet, you may come across trolls. I awoke Saturday morning to find two comments from the same account, blasting me as “SAD AND DESPERATE” and declaring I have “0 hope.” I don’t believe any of those things the person wrote for a second, and I don’t want to give them a stage. But I did want to address the remarks in case there is a person out there questioning their worth because they are single.
